Belgium poured forward all afternoon — 23 shots, 7 on target, De Bruyne pulling the strings throughout — but Alireza Beiranvand had other plans. The Iranian goalkeeper kept out shot after shot, including back-to-back saves from Maxim De Cuyper either side of halftime, and stood tall again late on as Belgium threw on fresh legs in search of a breakthrough. Iran had their own moments on the counter through Mehdi Taremi and Hossein Kanani, with Thibaut Courtois equal to both. Things got harder for Belgium in the second half when Nathan Ngoy was sent off in the 66th minute, but with ten men they kept pushing and kept being denied. A goalless draw that will frustrate Belgium far more than it pleases Iran.
