Canada needed about a minute to show what kind of night this would be — Qatar's only shot of the match came in the 1st minute, and it sailed wide. From there it was one-way traffic. Cyle Larin opened the scoring in the 16th off a corner, just after Mahmoud Abunada had denied Jonathan David from a similar spot, and David doubled it in the 29th, pouncing on the loose ball after a blocked Tajon Buchanan shot. Qatar's night turned disastrous in the 33rd when Homam Ahmed was sent off after a VAR review waved off a Canadian penalty claim but still produced a straight red, and David made it 3-0 right before the break, finishing off a saved Larin header.
