Fofana was booked in the 28th, Kessié in the 38th for a foul on Hincapié, and Doué two minutes later on Valencia — a chaotic stretch that left them stretched thin in midfield. Despite the discipline issues, Ivory Coast were the more dangerous side: Wahi forced a save from Galíndez in the 18th, then struck the crossbar in the 52nd from Diomande's cross. Fofana was eventually hauled off at the 77th. Ecuador had more of the ball but managed just one shot on target all game. Then Diallo arrived. Singo slipped him through in the 90th and he finished cleanly — the only goal, right at the death. Ivory Coast win on minimal margin, maximum drama.
