Cape Verde needed a point and they ground one out. The same Vozinha who kept Spain scoreless in matchday 1 was at it again in Houston — he saved Kanno's header just before halftime, kept out Abu Al Shamat at 67', and denied Al Hamddan in stoppage time. Saudi Arabia had their moments and pushed increasingly hard as the final whistle neared, but Cape Verde's backline held. Jamiro Monteiro went closest for Cape Verde in the second half, his effort saved by Al Owais. The result sends Cape Verde through to the Round of 32 as Group H runners-up — their first-ever knockout stage appearance. Saudi Arabia finish fourth and go home with two points — draws against Uruguay and Cape Verde — but never threatened to reach the knockouts after losing 4-0 to Spain in matchday 2.
