Sweden needed a win to keep their knockout hopes alive, and they almost got it. Hien was booked in the 32nd for a foul that slowed Japan's buildup, then Bergvall went off injured at the 37th — Sweden's first real disruption. The second half was where it mattered: Daizen Maeda put Japan ahead in the 56th with a composed finish, and Sweden answered six minutes later through Anthony Elanga to level it at 1-1. Both teams made waves of changes — Japan brought on Ogawa, Ito, Nagatomo and Watanabe; Sweden introduced Svensson, Sema and later Starfelt and Nygren. Taniguchi was booked in the 77th, Gyökeres in the 85th as Sweden pushed for a winner. They couldn't find one. Sweden finish third in Group F and enter the best-thirds pool. Japan advance as runners-up.
