Mexico controlled the rhythm of this one from the start, with Edson Álvarez pulling the strings in midfield, but the final ball was missing for a while — Roberto Alvarado and Brian Gutiérrez both fired wide in the 7th, and Julián Quiñones headed straight at Kim Seung-Gyu in the 20th off an Alvarado cross. South Korea's best first-half look came from Seol Young-Woo, whose angled effort drifted wide in the 41st, and Lee Kang-In tested Mexico moments later before Johan Vásquez blocked it away. The breakthrough finally came in the 50th: Raúl Jiménez's header was blocked in the box, and Luis Romo was first to the rebound, finishing low into the center of the goal. Korea pushed hard for an equalizer late on — Cho Gue-Sung and Yang Hyun-Jun both went close in the 87th, only for Raúl Rangel to come up with a sharp double save to keep Mexico ahead. Lee Kang-In kept serving up trouble in stoppage time, setting up headers for Lee Han-Beom, Cho Gue-Sung and Oh Hyeon-Gyu in quick succession, but none could find the target. A single goal was enough for Mexico, who move to two wins from two — but they'll want to tighten things up if Korea's late surge is anything to go by.
