Musa went off at the break, Budimir came on, and nine minutes later he met a Josip Stanisic cross with a left-footed volley from close range to break the deadlock. It was the defining moment of a tight, physical match. Modric pulled strings until he was taken off in the 81st, and Marco Pasalic had the best second chance of the night — testing Mosquera from inside the box off a Modric through ball in the 57th. Panama had their moments: Murillo forced Livakovic into a save in the 68th, and Waterman went close in the 84th off a Bárcenas ball. Bárcenas picked up a yellow for a foul in the 61st. A 1-0 win gives Croatia their first points, but with England and Ghana both sitting on four, they'll need a lot to go right in matchday three.
