Match Report
Switzerland controlled this one from the start but couldn't find the breakthrough for over an hour. Dan Ndoye forced saves out of Nikola Vasilj in the 20th and 51st, Granit Xhaka had one blocked in the 8th, and Remo Freuler and Michel Aebischer both went close — Vasilj and the Bosnian back line kept bailing them out. Bosnia had their moments too: Edin Dzeko, Amar Memic and Amar Dedic all tested Gregor Kobel from distance, but nothing beat him. The dam finally broke in the 74th — Johan Manzambi finished from the center of the box to make it 1-0. Tarik Muharemovic saw red in the 80th for a foul that snuffed out a Swiss break, and down to ten men, Bosnia couldn't hold the door shut. Rubén Vargas doubled the lead in the 84th off a Breel Embolo assist, then Manzambi grabbed his second in the 90th, set up by Vargas. Ermin Mahmic pulled one back from a corner in the 90th+3 for a bit of late pride, but Switzerland had the last word — Djibril Sow drew a penalty in the 90th+6, and Xhaka buried it to make it 4-1. A statement win for Switzerland, who needed one more goal than they probably expected to get going.
