Match Report
Paraguay needed only two minutes to grab the lead — Julio Enciso slipped a pass through and Matías Galarza buried it from outside the box — and then spent the rest of the night defending it with one fewer man than they started with. Galarza picked up a yellow moments after his goal for a foul, and things got tougher right before the break when Miguel Almirón saw red in stoppage time. Türkiye dominated the ball that followed — 78.5% possession, 32 shots by the final whistle — but couldn't find a way past a Paraguayan defense that bent without breaking; only 5 of those 32 attempts even tested the target. A couple of Turkish bookings (an unnamed foul in the 63rd, Eren Elmali in the 71st) showed the frustration setting in as the chances kept piling up without a goal. Both Enciso and Galarza had to be helped off injured in stoppage time, capping a backs-to-the-wall shift for the visitors. One of the biggest shocks of the group stage so far — a ten-man Paraguay holding out for nearly the full second half to beat a heavily favored Türkiye side.
