Spain had 68% of the ball and 17 shots to Belgium's five — and Fabián Ruiz broke the deadlock on 30' with a finish from the edge of the box. Belgium were already missing Tielemans, ruled out during warmups. They levelled through De Ketelaere just before half-time, converting a Castagne cross from the centre of the box to make it 1-1 at the break.

Spain kept pressing after the interval. Courtois was forced off injured in the second half, an emotional exit for one of Belgium's greatest ever players. Merino struck in the 88th minute to put Spain ahead, and despite a nervy finish Belgium couldn't respond. Spain are through to the semis.
