Switzerland were ruthless from the off. Breel Embolo pounced at 10' — Johan Manzambi broke quickly and squared it perfectly, Embolo tapping home from close range into the bottom left. Algeria had nothing to answer with in the first half, Farès Chaïbi picking up a yellow for a foul at 36' as frustration crept in early.

Dan Ndoye killed it at 46', right-footed from the centre of the box, again bottom left. Two goals, two bottom-left corners, one in each half's opening minutes. Algeria threw on four subs across the 58th and 71st minutes trying to change something — Riyad Mahrez, their biggest name, was hauled off at 71' having done nothing. Hicham Boudaoui came on in the same double sub and was booked within a minute. Switzerland barely broke a sweat. Switzerland 2-0, into the Round of 16.
